Attacked ex-girlfriend with two knives

Würzburg. A 20-year-old man attacked his ex-girlfriend in a threatening manner on Monday night. The officers at the scene overpowered the man, who was armed with two large kitchen knives, according to the police headquarters in Lower Franconia and the public prosecutor’s office in Würzburg in a joint press statement. The attacker is said to have hired several people in advance to intimidate his “ex’s” new partner in a downtown bar. The police arrested a total of three people. The investigation is now ongoing, among other things, because of the suspicion of an attempted homicide.

Around 8 p.m., the operations center of the police headquarters in Lower Franconia received an emergency call from a 17-year-old. The call came from a bar on Bronnbachergasse and the youth stated that a person was waiting outside who wanted to “stab” him. Apparently, the youth had been threatened from a group of about ten to 15 people.

Group of perpetrators fled

When the Würzburg police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the emergency call, only the 17-year-old was still there. The group of perpetrators had already fled. In the course of an immediately initiated search, officials arrested an 18-year-old suspect in the Hahnenhof area. A knife that he had thrown away shortly before his arrest was seized. The arrested man was accompanied by another suspect who initially managed to escape. He was also in possession of a smaller knife, which he had thrown away while fleeing.

When recording the facts, the police received a tip that a 20-year-old should have commissioned the crime in Bronnbachergasse. It is the ex-boyfriend of the current partner of the 17-year-old victim.

The whereabouts of the 20-year-old were initially unknown. However, officials learned that he had arranged to meet his ex-girlfriend at Wittelsbacherplatz later Monday evening.

At the agreed meeting point, the 20-year-old, armed with two knives, attacked his partner in a threatening manner shortly before 10 p.m. However, the police were already there. The officers overpowered the man, arrested him temporarily and also secured the two knives he was carrying. Nobody got hurt.

While the 20-year-old resisted the arrest, his 14-year-old companion came to his aid. He apparently tried to free his friend by attacking a police officer from behind. The 14-year-old is the same person who escaped after the incident in Bronnbachergasse am Hahnenhof. The youth was also arrested.

The arrested man, aged 18, was released after the police measures had been completed. A criminal investigation was initiated against him. The other two arrested, aged 14 and 20, remained in police custody. On Tuesday afternoon, at the request of the Würzburg public prosecutor’s office, an investigating judge issued pre-trial arrest warrants against the two suspects arrested on Monday evening. Both were taken to different prisons. The Würzburg criminal police continues to investigate.
