The slap that Hollywood star Will Smith (53) missed at the Oscars presenter Chris Rock (57) still reverberates. The day after the scandal, Smith apologized to his colleague.
Shortly after the excitement, Smith won the Oscar for best actor for his role in the movie King Richard. With tears, he apologized to the other nominees and the organizers. He didn’t mention the recipient of his swatter when he got on stage.
Smith chose a different platform for his apology on Monday. “Violence in all its forms is toxic and destructive,” Smith wrote on Instagram.
“My behavior at the Oscars yesterday was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s health was too much for me and I reacted emotionally.”

The “Bad Boys” star hit his colleague because the comedian made fun of Jada Pinkett Smith’s (50) hair loss. Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith (50), suffers from “alopecia areata” (circular hair loss) – which is why the actress shaved her hair off.

Smith on Instagram: “I want to publicly apologize to you Chris. I misbehaved and I was wrong. I’m embarrassed and my actions weren’t appropriate for the man I want to be.”
Chris Rock has no plans to take legal action against his colleague. The Los Angeles Police Department confirms this.
“LAPD investigators are aware of an incident between two individuals at the Oscars, in which one person hit another,” Variety said in a police statement. “The person concerned has declined to file a complaint. However, should the person involved wish to file a police report at a later date, the LAPD will be available.”
However, the Academy wants to clarify whether Smith will be stripped of the Oscar.
In a statement Monday night, the Oscars organizers said: “The Academy condemns Mr Smith’s behavior at last night’s show. We have officially initiated a formal investigation into the incident and will consider further actions and consequences consistent with our statutes, codes of conduct and California law.”
