On Monday, the court again organized a large-scale raid on three depots of the courier company PostNL. This concerns the branches in Wommelgem, Willebroek and Turnhout. The raids are part of an investigation into social malpractice in courier services. The sites in Wommelgem and Willebroek were eventually sealed.

Nine people were arrested in the action, including the CEO of PostNL Belgium, Rudy Van Rillaer, and his operations manager. Together with seven other suspects, they were brought before the investigating judge in Mechelen. Six of them were released, three of whom were subject to conditions. The CEO, the operations manager and a third employee will remain in jail for the time being. They are charged with leading a criminal organization, human trafficking, forgery and prohibited posting.

However, the labor inspectorate is very scant with information. “In the interest of the investigation,” says labor prosecutor Gianni Reale. The council chamber will decide on Friday about their further arrest.

In November last year, the court also raided three PostNL depots after complaints about social malpractice.
