Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday that Russia had basically fulfilled the basic tasks of the so-called special operation and would now focus on “liberating” Donbass.

Shigigu, who made the announcement live on television, had long since disappeared from the public domain, raising speculations about his fate.

“The basic tasks of the first phase of the special military operation have been fulfilled. We can focus on the main task – the liberation of Donbass, “said Shoigu.

Russia is reportedly banned from calling the war against Ukraine a war or an invasion, or any other appropriate name. All media have been forced to use the euphemism imposed by dictator Vladimir Putin – a “special operation”.

It is also forbidden to give any information about the true course of events in Ukraine, and the Russian authorities have declared any information revealing war crimes in Ukraine, the killing of civilians, the damage suffered by the Russians and the resistance of the Ukrainian people to the invaders to be “false information”.

Sergei Rudsky, Chief of the Main Operational Department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, made similar statements last week.

The UNIAN news agency then admitted that Russia is likely to prepare a contingency plan, as the aggressor’s attack has stalled in several directions, except for the eastern direction, so Russia could concentrate its efforts in this direction.

The possible occupation of Donetsk and Luhansk regions will provide Russia with additional leverage in the negotiations.

This is also evidenced by the latest report of the General Staff of Ukraine, which states that Russian troops have not met the general objectives of the attack.
