André van Duin: ‘What I experienced with Martin cannot be repaired’

André tells in the half hour that he can hardly be alone, something he has been a lot in the past two years after the death of his husband Martin Elferink. He passed away in January 2020 from cancer. “What I experienced with Martin cannot be repaired,” André says in the podcast. “That’s what it is. A lot of work, distraction. Life goes on, eh. Just go ahead, that you don’t have to think too much about your grief. (…) You have to do it as you think good is.”

Martin is and remains his great love, although André has now found happiness again with Fernando. The all-rounder tells Ruud that he found it quite difficult to share that with the rest of the Netherlands. “That was actually a strange kind of explosion,” says the presenter, who released the news one day after his 75th birthday. “I had already been in contact with Fernando for almost six months and then I thought: this is actually the time to tell it, because everyone is so great, so many cards, appreciation.”

“It’s always an experiment how people react to it, because it’s only been two years and how long do you have to mourn? One says so long and the other…”, continues the enamored entertainer. “But again, I can’t stay alone, or be alone. So I like having someone around me. In the case of Fernando at all, I’ve known him for a long time, for 35 years, so we went where we had stayed.”

André recently spoke Aran on Tour candid about his love life. Watch that conversation below:
