TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – PT Pertamina (Persero) plans to buy crude oil from Russia to meet the needs. Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati said the company was preparing a business to business or B to B purchase process.
“We are currently coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Nicke said during a hearing with Commission VI of the DPR, Monday, March 28, 2022.
Nicke said that apart from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, state oil companies are coordinating with Bank Indonesia. He ensured that the purchase process would not cause political problems as long as the companies that cooperated with Pertamina were not subject to sanctions.
“For payments, maybe later through India,” said Nicke.
Pertamina, he said, saw an opportunity in the midst of the geopolitical conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In a war situation, Russia has the potential to sell crude oil at a lower price. The reason, the country received a lot of trade sanctions from western countries.
“We see there opportunity to buy from Russia at a better price,” Nicke said.
