BEIJING, KOMPAS.TV – The Chinese government has reiterated its position that it is reluctant to criticize Russia and blames the West for the war in Ukraine. According to the Chinese Ambassador to the United States (US) Qin Gang, only Beijing is currently willing to listen to Russia.
This was conveyed by Qin during an interview with the channel Phoenix TelevisionTuesday (28/3/2022).
Qin’s interview comes at a time when China’s support for Moscow is increasingly being highlighted by Western countries, including the US.
Qin said China’s position in responding to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was “unique”. He was also reluctant to refer to Russia’s actions as an invasion or military aggression, but merely as a “crisis”.
“Now, all parties involved in a serious confrontation with Russia, except China. Only China wants to listen to Russia, “Qin told Phoenix Television quoted Associated Press.

The 56-year-old diplomat blamed NATO’s expansion which he considered provoking Russia. Ukraine itself has said it is ready to discuss neutrality from NATO or any bloc, but the Kremlin has failed to halt attacks.
“Russia feels cheated by NATO with its eastward expansion. He felt threatened and cornered,” Qin said.
Beijing: Sanctions on Russia Worse Global Economy
Separately, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin also criticized the West’s way of dealing with the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Wang referred to the successive economic sanctions imposed on Moscow. He said these sanctions would not solve the problem and would actually worsen the global economy.
