The graduates of the rue de Berne dojo, created 18 months ago, shine in the various karate championships, whatever their age, from children to seniors.
Barely 18 months of existence for the Team Ouissa Karate and showers of medals at each competition… Seventeen in gold at the Languedoc-Roussillon championship, in Prades with, as a consequence, the Nîmes structure designated as the first club in the region . Twelve medals, including 3 gold, at the Coupe de France wado: “We were ranked first club in France”, proudly underlines Youssef Ouissa, the young founder of the structure alongside his brother Iliess. Bis repeated in the Occitanie championship, with 18 gold medalists and 32 qualifications for the French championships. “29 individually and three per team. Again, we finished first club.”
Respect, discipline…
In short, the rue de Berne dojo, created in full confinement by two athletes from Clos d’Orville, has established itself in less than two years as one of the major players in Nîmes karate. “We stay humble. These are great performances. suitable for the state-certified educator. For what reasons ? It’s a whole: we win fights thanks to strategy, coaching too. The atmosphere, the group, the emulation, it all comes into play… In training, we annoy them to work well: our students see that hard work pays off. And this in all categories, from 8-year-olds to seniors.” The two coaches from Nîmes are also attentive to the school results of children and teenagers: “It’s school first and foremost. If the grades don’t follow, we stop training a bit.”
Other values put forward in a club which brings together 108 licensees, 20 students having joined the tatami this season: “Passion, respect, discipline…. Our members come mainly from Nîmes, but also from Tarascon, La Grande Motte. We have 60% boys, 40% girls, and the latter send!” In sight today, the various French championships which, from April, will take place on a weekly basis for five weeks.
