National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan celebrates its 77th anniversary – AZERTAC

The National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS) celebrates its 77th anniversary.

Currently, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences has 9,640 employees, including 4,319 researchers, 538 PhDs in natural sciences and 1,824 PhDs in philosophy.

According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev from April 9, 2018, March 27 is the Day of Science in Azerbaijan. This date coincides with the founding of the Academy of Sciences in 1945.

In 1932 an Azerbaijani branch was established within the Caucasian branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Twelve years later, the branch was transformed into an independent Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The founding members included the composer Üzeyir Hajibäyov and the poet Samad Vurghun.

The institution, which was renamed the National Academy of Sciences in 2001, is still the largest scientific institution in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Academy of Sciences plays a leading role in basic research, creation of new technologies and methods, and education of highly qualified scientists in Azerbaijan. Since regaining independence
