A complete failure to hook up with Petkov and Vassilev directed the former ombudswoman to the new project
Whether Maya Manolova and Stefan Yanev will join efforts on a new political project is the intrigue of the spring season 2022. For now, it is clear only that – according to the former ombudswoman herself, they are looking in one direction. And that they will not hold a joint party.
On the principle of honey and wire
Maya Manolova has been active in the last few years, when she is hyperactive in political life. (See infographic.)
Both have tried in recent months of “Continuing Change.”
Initially, Manolova approached Kiril Petkov and Asen Vassilev with honey. She saw in them potential partners and a path to power, which slipped into her two failed parliaments last year. However, both projects started from the protests, both publicly and not so much – with the blessing of President Rumen Radev. It is no coincidence that the name of the first formation, with which Manolova and her partners from the so-called poisonous trio Nikolay Hadjigeno and Arman Babikyan bore the name “Stand up BG! Get out! ” – by analogy with the raised fist and Radev’s slogan from the protests.
However, with the appearance of “We continue the change”, it quickly became clear that the new formation will draw from the votes of the protest parties. That is why Manolova was the first to propose. He asked for a pre-election agreement and even joint lists between the PP and IBGNI. “Before the elections, we should not appear with the general public, because there are people on the right who would never vote for Maya Manolova. There are people on the left or part of the protest who would not vote for the far right. We are obviously setting up the new center. Many people would vote for us, so we have to give full democracy to the voters to vote on the whole palette – from the left to the right “, Petkov politely refused then.
After she was publicly cut off, it became clear that Manolova was drilling whether she could personally settle for a seat in the lists of the new formation. But that didn’t happen either.
However, during the election campaign, Manolova received a shoulder from Petkov and Vassilev. Throughout the campaign, the current prime minister has repeatedly said that Manolova’s party must enter parliament and voters must support it so that there is a majority of change. But that was not enough to enter “Stand up BG! We are coming!” in the 47th National Assembly.
After he did not enter the parliament and it became clear that he would not participate in any form in this government – he did not get a ministerial post (although Kiril Petkov saw it as suitable for the social sphere because he has a strong leftist focus on these activities). to become the head of the divided KPKONPI (as the other three parties in the coalition are against), Maya took the strings.
It has sharply become in opposition to the current government. It attacks it sharply on all fronts – both for the budget and for social policy. According to her, the government is showing helplessness in terms of crises and a lack of real problems for the people.
“The cabinet has diverged from the people’s agenda. They cannot cope with the crises that are pouring in from all sides. “People want this government to succeed, but the assessment is not high,” she said some time ago.
Criticism is expected to be heard on Sunday, when
the assertive lawyer gathers socially engaged people to discuss the 100 days of Petkov’s cabinet
On the occasion of the first three months of the new government, Manolova criticized the delay in judicial reform. This majority has done practically nothing – the law on special courts has not yet passed through the plenary hall, the law on KPONPI does not exist, nothing is being done to change the members of the SJC inspectorate, she reproached.
If they miss the initiative, the opposition will take it, the lawyer warned.
She surprised many by even criticizing the action with the arrests of Boyko Borisov, Sevdelina Arnaudova and Vladislav Goranov. According to her, the Ministry of Interior was in a hurry, the actions were carried out without sufficient evidence and this would harm the fight against the “Borisov model”.
“The results of the three arrests on Thursday night are about to nullify the three-year battle against the Borissov model and scald the hopes, expectations and energy of tens of thousands of people from Bulgaria’s squares,” Manolova said. He added that these arrests are starting a resuscitation of GERB, as they have given Borissov’s party the opportunity to counterattack and actually return to the political game.
She criticized the government for losing the information war by failing to tell the public what the allegations were, what crimes were suspected, some facts and new evidence, such as the PFIA report, which showed budget damage. for over BGN 500 million
“If in the coming days all this request for both detention and prosecution is not backed up with serious evidence, it will call into question the actions of the Interior Ministry and the government, and their ability to effectively fight corruption.” said Manolova.
Her behavior in recent months has been interpreted as the start of a future new presidential project
Coincidentally or not, her actions surprisingly coincided with President Radev’s criticism of “We continue to change.” The two often speak the same language, Manolova detects it “accidentally” by events. But as much as Maya wants, she has not received public support from Radev so far.
So far, it is known for sure that Manolova is trying for a broad unification center – left. Her idea is for the new platform to bring together NGOs and civil society organizations, celebrities. As well as bringing together most of the left-wing formations, which now approach each other with great distrust, to make them find common ground. The aim is to cover the wide niche of left-wing voters who do not currently have a political representative.
“Wide unification is sought, I will not be the face. “There is a need for a new large-scale social project to protect people in an economic crisis,” she said.
However, what will be her fate largely depends on Stefan Yanev. It is no coincidence that Maya now serves the jar of honey to him, announcing that they are in good communication. She reminded that she supported him not only as caretaker prime minister, but also when he was removed from the post of Minister of War.
“We are currently in talks with the team of Gen. Stefan Yanev for the creation of a broad social project, which should be an alternative to vulnerable people, “she said a few days ago in Plovdiv.
