US pharmaceutical company Pfizer is also interesting high blood pressure high blood pressure medication from circulation.
Quoted from Prevention, Pfizer disclosed in more detail the drugs contained levels of N-nitroso-quinapril, a type of nitrosamine, with levels above the levels recommended by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
According to a company press release, Pfizer will recall six lots of Accuretic tablets, one lot of quinapril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets, and four lots of quinapril HCl/hydrochlorothiazide tablets.
The FDA reports that people exposed to excessive levels of nitrosamines over a long period of time may have an increased risk cancer.
Nitrosamines are compounds that are naturally found in water and some foods, including cured and grilled meats.
For the past two years, the FDA has been investigating the presence of this potential carcinogen in drugs.
The FDA is also urging pharmaceutical companies to recall drugs that exceed internationally established ADI (Acceptable Daily Intake) levels.
