KKB in Nduga Attacks Marines with Grenades, 1 Dead and 2 Critical Personnel

JAYAPURA, KOMPAS.com – Gunfights between the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya and Marine personnel broke out in Kenyam District, Kabupaten Kenyam NdugaPapua, Saturday (26/3/2022) afternoon.

As a result of the incident, one Marine died, two were critically injured, and seven were injured.

“It is true that there was a gun battle that resulted in the death of one Marine and two others critically due to the GLM (grenades) thrown by the KKB,” said Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, in Mappi, Saturday.

The marines who died were Danpos Letda Mar Iqbal. Meanwhile, the two critical personnel are Serda Mar Bayu Pratama and Serda Mar Rendi Febriansyah.

According to Fakhiri, gunfire had occurred three times, namely at 17:50 WIT, 18:45 WIT, and 19:45 WIT.

“The Egianus group is the KKB that has the most weapons, one of which is the looted GLM,” he said.

Currently, all security forces in Kenyam are on alert because it is suspected that several KKB members are still around the airport.

“Most of the KKB have fled but there are still a few that are still around the end of the airport,” said Fakhiri.
