1. Which Facebook and Instagram are “extremists”?
The United States came to the defense of Facebook and Instagram, Meta platforms, after Russia branded them “extremists,” accusing them of allowing calls for violence against Russians over the invasion of Ukraine.
“We condemn the decision of a Moscow court to designate Meta, including Facebook and Instagram, as ‘extremist’. This attack on the right to information must stop,” said US State Department spokesman Ned Price. .
In the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Meta announced that it would allow users in Ukraine, Russia, and Poland to bypass its usage rules and post messages that would normally be prohibited, such as “death to the Russian invader.”
