North Korea (Jewelry) launch intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The missile landed on Japan. The regional atmosphere in East Asia became tense.
The ballistic missile was launched by North Korea on Thursday (24/3) afternoon local time and landed in the waters of Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), or west of Japan’s northern coast.
“Our current analysis shows that the ballistic missile flew for 71 minutes and at about 3:44 p.m., it landed in the deep waters of the Japan Exclusive Economic Zone in the Sea of Japan about 150 kilometers west of the Oshima peninsula, Hokkaido,” said Makoto Oniki, Japan’s defense minister. AFP news agency, Thursday (24/3/2022).
The missile is believed to be the newest intercontinental ballistic missile from North Korea. You see, the missile that just launched flew at an altitude of more than 6,000 km, much higher than the Hwasong-15 ICBM which was launched in November 2017. Japan took this incident seriously because the North Korean weapon had entered its territory.
“At a time when the world is facing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, North Korea is forging ahead with launches that unilaterally exacerbate provocations against the international community, which are completely unforgivable,” said Japanese Defense Minister Makoto Oniki.
