Purbalingga Regency is targeting to be free of Tuberculosis (TB) disease in 2028. This target is 2 years earlier than the national target set in 2030. The Health Office noted that there were around 10,203 people suspected of contracting TB in 2021.

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria and attacks the lungs. This disease can be transmitted through splashes in the air. TB disease or better known as TB, can have an impact on other diseases.

The Coordinator of the Functional Office for the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (JF P2PM) of the Purbalingga Health Office, Aji Sumbodo, said the number of suspected TB people was 10,203 in 2022. After screening 4,339 people, it was found that 1,043 people had TB.

“Data collection from the beginning is very necessary, we will continue to try to record people who may be exposed to TB,” said Aji Sumbodo.

For the next six years, Purbalingga is targeted for no more cases of TB or TB disease. These efforts are currently being carried out. The Health Office is aggressively promoting the TB TOSS Gempur program (the Burning Movement of Purbalingga Finds Treatment Until TB Patients Are Healed).

“Currently, the activity involves 44 villages in every Puskesmas throughout Purbalingga. Then also conduct socialization broadcasts on the radio and make banners in each health service, as well as hold cross-sectoral meetings in the context of TB management,” said Sumbodo.

Contacted separately, a pediatrician from RSUD R Goeteng Tarunadibrata, Dr. Adrian Budi Kusuma, said that in order to achieve the target of zero TB, extra effort and accurate data collection were needed so that treatment could be carried out quickly.

“The step is to take treatment as early as possible and take medication regularly,” he said.

Treating tuberculosis, requires time that varies depending on the level of pain and the age of the sufferer. In general, it can be concluded that routine treatment is at least 1 year.

In addition to treatment for prevention, BCG vaccine should be carried out to prevent TB disease, especially severe TB. Immediately take the child to the doctor, if the child is in close contact with an adult pulmonary TB patient, he or she should be examined by a doctor to confirm whether there is TB disease or not. If you are sick with TB, you will be given medicine immediately, if you are not sick, you need to be given preventive medicine.

“TB is not a hereditary disease, but it can be contagious. TB is transmitted one of them through splashing saliva. The virus can enter our breathing and into our lungs which eventually causes infection in our body, if it is not strong, it can lead to TB,” he said.

Symptoms of TB in children, according to dr. Adrian, coughing up phlegm for more than 2 weeks, weight doesn’t want to go up, weakness, no energy, no appetite. If there are these signs, immediately further examination with X-rays and other examinations.

“If the child has recovered, it is hoped that parents will keep away the possibility of contact with adult TB because it can recur again,” he said

dr. Ardian emphasized that TB must be treated immediately because if left unchecked, it will be very dangerous if the body’s immune system has decreased.

“TB can go to the kidneys, the patient will experience convulsions and lead to extra lungs and can result in death,” he said.
