Ralph Lauren’s show proves New York glamor is alive and well

After nearly three years without a show, Ralph Lauren made a powerful comeback with his Fall/Winter 2022 show in New York. The designer opted for an intimate presentation in the Museum of Modern Art for his autumn collection, which was a true ode to the return of his New York.

Ralph Lauren brings back New York glamour

The collection was dominated by a neutral color palette of black and white tones, which was interrupted after a few looks by a touch of red and sparkling sequins. It became clear that the designs that have brought Ralph Lauren fame over the past fifty years are still elegant and modern in 2022. Not only the show had many highlights, the outfits of the star-studded frontrow was at least as noteworthy. From Lily Collins to Janelle Monáe – all gave a stylish twist to the masculine RL tuxedo. During the final, Lauren received a standing ovation from the audience. As the applause reached its peak, one thing was clear: the power of New York fashion and glamor is back.

Classic Ralph Lauren

Gigi Hadid, who recently dyed her locks platinum blonde, opened the show in arguably one of Ralph Lauren’s most recognizable designs; the knitted initials sweater. The sweater contained the lettering of the brand and was combined with suit trousers, chic shoes and a minimalist black handbag – the embodiment of the classic Ralph Lauren and New York style.

New York glamour

Lauren’s new collection was a reminder of his well-known style of timeless, classic and tailored garments. From black modern tuxedos and bodycon dresses with huge bow details to stylish sportswear-inspired pieces and minimalist ball gowns. “The collection is a celebration of the timeless style of black and white and is enhanced by the sleek lines of tailored silhouettes,” said the designer.

The show was shown at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC

The new autumn/winter 2022 collection was shown in the epitome of creativity, art and design – the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The room where the show took place was an imitation of Lauren’s own Fifth Avenue apartment. With black leather lounge chairs, matching coffee tables including huge bowls of M&Ms and photos with a view of Central Park – as seen in Lauren’s real apartment.

Chic streetwear

Ralph Lauren transported spectators into both the New York of the past and the future, where streetwear and glamor meet. That led to unexpected combinations on the catwalk, where chic ruffled tops and modern oversized suits were combined Yankee caps and bomber jackets with the text New York.

Chic après-ski

Luxury knitwear may be a hot fashion trend right now, but it’s been part of Lauren’s collection for years. For his new collection, Lauren gave knitwear an extra chic twist Fair Isle sweaters with long black skirts and sparkling dresses. Proof that a comfortable, après-ski-inspired style can also be chic.

Star-studded frontrow

Dressed in a black tuxedo, including hair that is slicked back in the form of a low bun and a bow-tieCollins gave a playful twist to the men’s suit.

Modern tuxedo upgrade

Collins wasn’t the only one to give her own version of the tuxedo. Many guests including Janelle Monáe gave the suit a glamorous twist. Monáe added a splash of color to the classic look by opting for a black-and-yellow fake fur stole that she draped over her shoulders and matched her blonde hairdo and platform heels.
