KOMPAS.com – The smuggling of methamphetamine weighing 1,196 tons was thwarted by the Directorate of Drug Investigation of the West Java Regional Police (Polda).
The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the more than 1 ton of crystal methamphetamine if converted into rupiah would reach trillions.
“Then related to the value of barbuk, if this is converted into rupiah, assuming one gram of methamphetamine is Rp. 1.2 million, then the transaction value if this is successfully circulated, is approximately Rp. 1.43 trillion,” he said Thursday (24/3/2022).
There were 66 bags of methamphetamine that were successfully secured by the police.
“From the disclosure, it was found that 66 sacks of barbuk (evidence) contained 1,196 tons of crystal methamphetamine,” he said at a press conference at the Intelligence Education Center, Bandung Regency, West Java.
Listyo said that the disclosure made by the Directorate of Drug Investigation of the West Java Police would be the largest in mid-2022.
“This is one of the big disclosures at the beginning towards the middle of the year,” he said.
Five perpetrators face the death penalty
Regarding this case, the police arrested five perpetrators, namely HM (41), HH (39), AH (38), MH (20), and AH (27).
The suspects, explained Listyo, face a maximum sentence of the death penalty.
“For the suspect’s actions, the Police have implemented Articles 112, 113, 114, 115, and Article 132 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, which carries a maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment for 20 years,” he explained.
Previously, the police managed to thwart the smuggling of methamphetamine in Mandasari Beach, Patigi District, Central Java PangandaranWest Java, Wednesday (16/3/2022).
Methamphetamine transactions are carried out from ship to ship (ship to ship) in the southern port area.
“Polri conducted a search. Thank God, four suspects were found who had just finished their transactions ship to ship in the middle of the sea and then bring the ship to anchor or lean in the Pangandaran area. When the four perpetrators moved from the boat to the car, we took them into custody,” Listyo explained.
