Bram builds pancake machine from Buurman and Buurman

“I like to watch the videos with my children, but I watch even more for myself,” Bram tells EditieNL. “The great thing is that Buurman and Buurman never give up and are very inventive, but also very stupid. It is such a special combination. Then they have built something special again to do something cumbersome and wonder if it can also be done in real life. can.”

This gave rise to the idea of making inventions from the films together with his father and turning them into a YouTube series. “My father has a big barn with sixty years of collected material. It’s a lot of fun to do this with my father, and he is more handy than I am,” says Bram. “I’m a technology journalist at Bright, so I know quite a bit about installation and the technical side, but I have computer hands.”

flying pancakes

The first project of the two was soon conceived: the pancake machine. “It still has an idea of dexterity, which I like. And flying pancakes are always worth their weight in gold,” Bram laughs. “You also see in the episode good what they do, you can replicate the elements well.”

Buurman and Buurman bake pancakes, but because it doesn’t go fast enough, they build a machine that does it for them. “The first part is a pan with pancake mix, which has a water pump that can pump the mix into the pan.” That did not go well with Bram and Kees. “We had a water pump that was too strong. The mix shot in all directions. We started focusing on the other parts first.”

Hammer on handle

To do this, two pans were placed next to each other on their own fire. The pancake is baked on one side in the left pan. “There is then a handle with which you can flip the pancake to the other pan.” Then the other side can be baked. A hammer is also lifted into the air: when the pancake is ready, it is released on the handle of the pan and the pancake flies into the air.

“It regularly went wrong, but that is also part of inventing something,” says Bram. “There are elements that were uncontrollable. You expect it to always come out the same, but it depends, for example, on how thick the pancake is. The power of the hammer didn’t always go well either.”

children’s parties

Bram is still unsure whether he will continue to perfect the machine or whether he will continue with the next project. “You can adapt and improve endlessly. I was already invited to children’s parties, so maybe we should make it wearable.”

Other ideas are already there: “There is one with an exercise bike which becomes a kind of car, I have it high. Or a rotary dryer where you can hang the laundry that a merry-go-round So there will definitely be a sequel. “It’s a lot of fun to make, but it’s definitely half the fun that I do this with my father.”
