The right side of the Real Betis and former of Arsenal, Héctor Bellerínassured that the importance that the world is giving to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine It comes from a “racist” perspective, since for years there have been other confrontations that have not been given due attention and have lacked empathy.
The Spanish footballer said that he finds it somewhat harsh that the importance given to the conflict between Russians and Ukrainians comes from the fact that “they look more like us” or due to the fact of being closer geographically and that this ends up affecting the personal economy, when wars like the one in Palestine and Israel they have been around for many years and people have not shown the same empathy.
“It seems quite hard to see that we are interested in this war, but there have been many other wars that nobody has been interested in. I don’t know if it is because they are more like us or because it is a conflict that can affect us more directly than economic level, but the war in Palestine has been completely muted by comparison,” he said in an interview with The English Media.
It seems very racist to me, we are only giving importance to those close to us
“In the end, these are things that have happened in other countries and we have turned a blind eye. It seems hard to me that only these things are given importance, that there is this narrative at the press level, all this seems to me sincerely very racist and very little empathy because lives are being lost and we are only giving importance to those close to us,” he added.
The native of Barcelona confirmed that he has been, from the shadows, supporting various affected countries and not just Ukraine. In addition, he exhorted the population of the world to open their eyes and see that “we are all people and we matter wherever we are.”
