Mark Rothko’s originals will be on display at the Rothko Center; existing works can be seen later this week / Article

After a three-year period, the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center has replaced its existing original works by Mark Rothko. The small exhibition of five works in the Rothko Hall traces the radical development of the artist ‘s work throughout his career: from the early figurative paintings of the 1930s through the transition period in the 1940s to the revolutionary “classical” period of the 1950s and 1960s.

On March 27, there will be another opportunity to see the works of Mark Rothko from the collection of his son Christopher and daughter Kate:

While the new original works by Mark Rothko are being removed to Latvia, the Rothko Hall will undergo a minor reconstruction. After a period of nine years, the room must be refurbished to accommodate new originals. In the meantime, several reproductions of the works of Mark Rothko and the exhibition “Found in the Collection” of the Rothko Center will be on display in the permanent exhibition hall.
