This is an important step towards the decarbonisation of aviation logistics, expanding existing business cooperation.
“This important agreement, which is our largest-ever contract for SAF supplies, demonstrates the growing need and urgency, as well as the commitment to take action to address emissions from the aviation industry. We are pleased to take this step with DHL, which demonstrates both “This is the common ambition of the companies and it is a step towards a cleaner planet for our children,” said Peter Vanacker, President and CEO of Neste.
This cooperation will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year until 2030. SAF is a cornerstone of the aviation industry’s efforts to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Achieving this goal requires a concerted effort throughout the aviation chain with all stakeholders, using all available renewable raw materials and solutions, explains Vanakers.
“The use of SAF is currently one of the key ways for the aviation industry to reduce CO2 emissions over the life cycle of aviation fuel with currently available aircraft types, adds Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL Group.
In its Sustainability Roadmap, the Deutsche Post DHL Group has committed to using 30% SAF in all air transport by 2030. Neste SAF is produced from sustainably sourced, 100% renewable waste and by-products. It is generally able to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 80% on its own and in its life cycle compared to the fossil aviation fuel it replaces, thus significantly reducing the logistics company’s environmental impact.
considering Singapore Neste will be able to produce around 1.5 million tonnes (approximately 1.875 billion liters) of sustainable aviation fuel per year by the end of 2023, due to the ongoing expansion of the refinery and the adaptation of the Rotterdam plant.
