Jakarta –
Viral on Twitter incident Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra belongs to the Instagram account @bryanfergus0n which is claimed to have suddenly exploded. Gadget observer from Gadtorade Lucky Sebastian also gave his opinion about the incident.
Lucky said the information on social media about the incident was still confusing and the photos provided were also limited. So he admitted that it was difficult to estimate the possible cause of the phone on fire.
Lucky added that the incident of burning cellphones could be experienced by devices from all vendors, including Xiaomi. The causes also vary, ranging from problems with the battery and charger or cellphones that are too hot because they have been in the sun for too long.
“But later usually the service department will be able to analyze what really happened, if the Xiaomi Indonesia service is not enough, usually it can be sent to the center for analysis,” Lucky said when contacted detikINETWednesday (23/3/2022).
“They also need this data to find out if there is an error in the design of the smartphone or it is a user error. It could be that the user is also not aware or accidentally made a mistake, so it needs to be investigated,” he continued.
Some netizens also suspected that the phone had previously been exposed to water before being taken to the service center. According to Lucky, this claim about being exposed to water can be proven at the service center because there are several areas of the cellphone that are fitted with markers that can change color when exposed to water.
Lucky reminds that even though the phone already has a waterproof rating, it doesn’t mean that when the phone gets wet it will be covered by a warranty. “There is not a single vendor that even though the smartphone is IP67 or IP68 waterproof guarantees this, the warranty still voids if exposed to water inside,” he said.
Other netizens also theorize that this explosion has something to do with the Snapdragon 888 chipset being used Mi 11 Ultra. Although known to tend to heat up quickly, according to Lucky, this explosion has nothing to do with the chipset used.
“I don’t think so, because the heat of the chipset temperature is not much compared to what it can withstand, because usually even if it is hot due to heavy work it is only tens of degrees, it can’t burn yet,” said Lucky.
According to Lucky, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has a good cooler. There is also software, which when the temperature is deemed too hot, will automatically stop with an overheat warning, asking the user to cool down.
“We just have to wait for news, does Xiaomi want to reveal what happened to the unit, is it a user error or is there really something wrong with the unit. Mi 11 Ultra this as far as I know is not a common occurrence with many Mi 11 Ultra, it seems the others are fine,” concluded Lucky.
Previously, Stephanie Sicilia, Head of PR for Xiaomi Indonesia, said that her party was aware of and was deploying a post-sales team to resolve the problem.
“We are aware of the complaint submitted by Mr Bryan regarding his cellphone and currently the complaint is being handled by the Xiaomi Indonesia after-sales team to provide the best solution for the consumers concerned,” said Stephanie.
