In 18 of the 53 countries covered by WHO Europe, the number of infections is increasing. The countries with a large increase are the United Kingdom, Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, France, Italy and Germany. “Those countries have brutally lifted the restrictions: they went from too much to not enough,” said Kluge.

According to WHO data, the number of infections fell after a peak at the end of January, but since the beginning of March there has been an increase again. In the past seven days, there were more than 5.1 million new infections and 12,500 deaths.
