Samsung Contributes 61% of 2021 Foldable Phone Shipments

Jakarta

A recent report from analytics firm Omdia reveals that Samsung has accounted for more than 61% market share for foldable phone shipments in 2021.

Launching from GizmochinaTuesday (22/3/2022) in the report it was also reported that of the top 11 foldable mobile devices on the market five of them came from Samsung.

The report further adds that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the most popular foldable phone. Shipments of this phone have reached about 4.6 million units.

An impressive number for the South Korean tech giant as it managed to increase shipments from 1.1 million units of the Galaxy Z Flip in 2020.

Learning from last year’s mistakes, Samsung is trying to make some small changes to its foldable phone Galaxy Z Flip 3. Samsung also offers a much lower price than its predecessor to increase sales.

On the other hand, Samsung also cut the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 by USD 200 compared to its predecessor to USD 1,799. Samsung also saw a huge increase in shipments from 700,000 units in 2020 to 2.5 million units in 2021.

The Omdia report added that the combined shipments of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 smartphones reached 7.1 million units, more than 61% of the total number of phones shipped.

It is estimated that this year, Samsung devices can dominate more than 70% of the global foldable phone market.
