Police officers targeted by rioters this weekend in Vaulx, Rillieux, Bron and Vénissieux

Last weekend, numerous incidents broke out in the east of the Lyon metropolitan area, between young individuals and police officers.

According to information from Valeurs Actuelles, confirmed by our sources, police patrols were victims of stones on Saturday evening around 10 p.m. in Vaulx-en-Velin. The officials, attacked by about fifteen individuals, used tear gas canisters to scare the attackers away.

At the same time, it was in Vénissieux that the police were targeted. The agents were targeted by projectile jets and fireworks mortar fire. According to our colleagues, a 14-year-old minor was arrested and placed in police custody. Not enough to calm tensions since in the night from Saturday to Sunday, this time around 1 a.m., new stones were recorded in the town known to be a hub for drug trafficking.

On Sunday, similar incidents began shortly before 4 p.m. in the Minguettes district, still in Vénissieux. After a relative calm, projectiles were again launched in the direction of the police in the evening, around 8 p.m., when about twenty rioters faced the officials.

Also on Sunday, this time in Rillieux-la-Pape, a wild rodeo disturbed the tranquility of the inhabitants from around 4 p.m. Two motorbike drivers could have been arrested after falling alone, but a dozen individuals intervened, preventing the arrests. In the evening, a police patrol was again targeted by stones. According to our information, the municipal police station was also hit by several projectiles.

Finally, in Bron, it was around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evening that two police crews were targeted during yet another stoning operation by a dozen individuals, again according to Valeurs Actuelles.

Investigations have been opened as fears of a summer of record breaking crime grow.
