CD Projekt Red confirms new The Witcher game on the way

Several news have now come from the game developer CD Projekt Red. The studio has confirmed that a new game from The Witcher series is on the way and that it will use a new game engine.

That CD Projekt Red would continue to develop games in The Witcher series probably comes as no major surprise. Both the latest game title and the Netflix series have both done very well and have been met with overwhelmingly positive reviews.

The game developer has not shared any additional details other than a single image related to the game. An image that apparently depicts a symbol similar to the symbol of what in The Witcher world is called the School of the Cat. CD Projekt Red may also have chosen to introduce a completely new school in the upcoming game. In addition to the symbol, we also have the text “A new saga begins”. Thus, we do not learn to assume the role of Geralt in the upcoming game.

However, what comes as good news from the game developer is that you will not use your own game engine Red Engine 2.0 for the game. The studio has instead entered into a multi-year collaboration with Epic Games and will use their Unreal Engine 5 for the next The Witcher game.

Exactly what made the game developer abandon its own game engine is not clear. On the other hand, the engine has been the basis for several game titles that were other than well-polished at launch. Most recently, it was Cyberpunk 2077 that is still plagued with a long list of bugs and performance issues. Despite the engine change, the game developer has confirmed that the next The Witcher game will not be exclusive to any specific digital game store. It also includes the Epic Games Store.

At the time of writing, we have no information about when the game may be launched or which platforms CDPR plans to make the game available on.
