There is now a sculpture on the Ukraine war on the Schluechtern square. The installation by Gerwin von Monkiewitsch is intended to be a “sign of our powerless interdependence”.
Schluechtern – An oil barrel and a gas bottle with Russian characters are mounted on indicated rubble, remains of wood and children’s toys. A crumpled blue and yellow flag hangs above it, referring to Ukraine. Everything is doused in red paint suggesting blood, which is being pecked up by a white dove of peace perched nearby.
With the permission of the town of Schluechtern, Gerwin von Monkiewitsch – architect, artist and cultural worker from Schluechtern – installed his gloomy object in a roundabout on the town square. (Also read: 17-year-old flees Ukraine to Schluechtern)

“This is the place where candles were also set up at the rally against the war,” Monkiewitsch recalls: His installation has no specific message – he doesn’t know what to do either. “There is blood on the gas and oil from Russia. The sculpture refers to the war and is a sign of our impotent intertwining.” (by Hanswerner Kruse)
