- The warning strike in air traffic is to be extended.
- The Verdi union has called for all-day work stoppages at eight airports.
- Almost a week ago, work was stopped at several airports.
In the dispute over higher salaries for the approximately 25,000 security staff at German airports, the Verdi services union has again called for warning strikes. Work stoppages are planned at eight airports on Tuesday, as Verdi announced on Monday: in Frankfurt am Main, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Hanover, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn. The strikes by the security staff lead to many cancellations and delays.
Verdi is negotiating with the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS) on the collective agreement for employees in the aviation security sector. They work, for example, in checking passengers, but also in freight and guarding aircraft. The fifth round of negotiations is scheduled for Thursday.
Verdi calls for a wage increase
Among other things, the union is demanding a wage increase of at least one euro per hour for a period of twelve months. In addition, she wants to achieve that regionally different wages are adjusted “to the highest wage level”.
So far, according to Verdi, employers have only offered wage increases for the upper pay brackets. In the salary groups with less than 13 euros per hour, however, the previous offer of 38 cents more per hour remained, Verdi explained on Monday. This offer is insufficient because it does not take into account the price development and provides for zero months.
The fourth round of negotiations had remained without result last week. The BDLS then criticized on Friday that Verdi was not behaving “constructively”. (afp/ari)
