Friday, March 18, the brand Buitoni (Nestlé group) has announced that it will mass recall of frozen pizzas Fraîch’Up. She detected the bacteria Escherichia coli in the dough of a product of the range. Since mid-February, this bacterium has been responsible for serious poisonings, having notably caused the death of two children.

The brand asks consumers who have purchased one of the 16 frozen pizza references Fraîch’Up before March 18 not to consume them and to throw them away. The Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention (DGCCRF) specifies that the whole of France is affected by this recall (source 1).

“The public authorities are investigating the resurgence of cases of hemolytic uremic syndrome (SHU) linked to E.coli to understand its origin”, declared to AFP Pierre-Alexandre Teulié, general manager in charge of communication of Nestlé France. He specifies however that “there is no proven link between our products and the poisonings that have occurred”. This recall is an “initiative of Buitoni in the name of the precautionary principle“.

If you have recently consumed one of the products in the range, poisoning linked to the E.coli bacteria would occur within 3 to 4 days after consumption, and within 10 days maximumspecifies the Directorate General of Health.

People who would “present from diarrheaabdominal pain or vomitingare invited to quickly consult their attending physician by notifying him of this consumption and the recall of the products by the company and to keep the packaging of the product. If there are no symptoms, there is no need to worry” (source 1).

According to the director general in charge of communication of Nestle France : “one of the characteristics of frozen pizzas is that the bacteria disappear with the heat, a pizza in the oven no longer presents a danger if it is eaten“.
