Panthers get Claude Giroux

A few hours after playing the 1000th game of his career in the National Hockey League (NHL), all played in a Flyers uniform, Giroux was traded to the Panthers.

Accompanying him are minor league forwards Connor Bunnaman and German Rubtsov. The Panthers also get a 5th round pick in 2024.

In exchange, the Flyers acquire young winger Owen Tippett, a 1st round pick in 2024 and a 3rd round pick in 2023. The Flyers will also continue to pay half of Giroux’s remaining salary.

Giroux’s contract expires at the end of this season. The athlete from Hearst has amassed 42 points in 57 games this season.

His 900 points rank him second in Flyers history, behind the legendary Bobby Clarke who has 1,210.

Reinforcement in Boston

The Boston Bruins have announced the acquisition of defenseman Hampus Lindholm from the Anaheim Ducks. The Californian formation also yields the player of the minor ranks Kodie Curran.

The Ducks get a 2022 1st round pick, a 2023 2nd round pick, a 2024 2nd round pick and two defensemen, John Moore and Urho Vaakanainen.

Vaakanainen, 23, was the Bruins’ first overall pick in the 2017 draft. He played 31 NHL games, recording 7 points.

Lindholm is in his final year of contract. At 28, he has played 582 games since the start of his career, amassing 222 points. He had been selected in the 6th echelon at the 2012 auction.

In addition, the Ducks also traded Nicolas Deslauriers. The Quebecer will continue his career with the Minnesota Wild, who acquired him for a 3rd round pick.
