The director of the National Theater, accused of banning on stage the messages of support for Ukraine, of the actors Mihai Călin and Richard Bovnoczki

The interim general director of the Bucharest National Theater (TNB), Mircea Rusu, is accused of forbidding the actors Mihai Călin and Richard Bovnoczki to express on stage messages of support with Ukraine, reports libertatea.ro

At the end of a show, actors Mihai Călin and Richard Bovnoczki wanted to record a message of support for their Ukrainian colleagues, but general manager Mircea Rusu opposed it. This is the latest conflict within the National, from a series that also included a ban on the design of the Ukrainian flag on the building and the organization of a humanitarian campaign.

“Today, two minutes before entering the scene, Marius Bodochi, the interim artistic director, sent me, on behalf of M. Rusu, the interim general director, the ban on manifesting myself in any way in connection with the war in Ukraine. Two well-known Ukrainian artists, an actress and a dancer, died today as a result of the bombings. I’m sick of the “dictatorship” set up at TNB. Outraged nationalism and total lack of understanding of the purpose of the Theater “, Călin wrote on Facebook.

The actor also explained that the message was directed to the Mariupol Theater and the “Ivan Franko” Academic Theater in Kyiv, where the “No Mans Land” show had been invited in 2020, but the trip was stopped due to the COVID pandemic.
