jpnn.com, JAKARTA – Human rights activist Haris Azhar feels sorry for the current regime of Joko Widodo. He considers the freedom of expression that is being curtailed through the legal process adds to a long series of government failures.

The Executive Director of Lokataru conveyed this following his determination as a suspect in slander and defamation of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment. Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.

According to Haris, this is an act of judicial harassment, a violation of the law.

“I feel sorry for the rulers for adding to the accumulation of failures to lead this nation. We call this judicial harrasment. We don’t want to bury the facts, but we want to say it’s not like this, instead we want to challenge these facts,” he said at a virtual press conference, Saturday (19/3).

Nevertheless, Haris claimed that he was ready to go to prison because Luhut reported it to the police. However, he reminded that everything he voiced about Papua was the result of research by a number of civil society organizations.

He stated the truth could not be imprisoned.

“We can go to jail, but the truth we talk about in the video cannot be jailed,” Haris said.

Haris and Fatia Maulidiyanti were appointed Polda Metro Jaya as a suspect in the case of slander and defamation of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
