Commodity Prices Rise Until 2030, Won’t Go Down Again!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – SOE Minister Erick Thohir predicts the increase in commodity prices will occur until 2030. The increase in commodity prices will make many products will not return to their original price.

He made this prediction after seeing the changes that occurred and disrupted world supply chains due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Disruptions to the world’s supply chains occur due to the flow of digitalization and the occurrence of a pandemic that changes people’s daily lives.

“The supply chain chaos occurred because of Covid as well, so that equilbrium Commodities now will certainly continue to increase until 2030,” said Erick in the 2022 BPP Hipmi Plenary Council Session, Friday (18/3/2022).

He said world commodity prices will remain at the top level because production costs will also rise. However, Erick said that Indonesia should not be afraid to face this because currently it has been downstreaming natural resources and encouraging digital economic growth.

“Commodity numbers will reach like this, and in 2030 like this, it won’t go down again. There will be supply chain shocks, production costs will be more expensive,” he said.

According to Erick, in the future, business actors must be careful to see what business sectors have the opportunity to continue to grow. According to him, citing a study, one of the business sectors that will continue to grow is health.

In addition, the food and beverage industry is also believed to continue to grow in the midst of disruption. Third, there is the digital industry that will experience the same thing. Then, the financial and logistics industry also has great potential.

“This digital will grow tremendously. Our digital market is very high and large. That’s why I often say it and we consolidate, we must exist roadmap alone, roadmap Indonesia. This is important, lest in the end the growth of our digital economy does not fill. The work is not us, the entrepreneurs are not us, “he said.

Erick then said that currently the Ministry of SOEs is focused on providing financing and assistance for business actors. These two things are mainly done to make MSMEs go up in class.

He explained that currently Indonesia is trying to increase the ratio of MSME financing from banks to 30 percent of the total loan portfolio. This is done because, compared to other countries, the portion of bank credit to MSMEs in Indonesia is still low.

“The president encourages it to be 30%. Interestingly, this data is seen as KUR, 92.4% is Himbara. So HImbara is the locomotive of MSME financing. Therefore, we see the figure now from Rp. 282 trillion. The President asked (KUR) to be increased to Rp. 388 trillion in 2022,” he said.
