March 17, 2022 – The week started dramatically for Dutch football with the elimination of Ajax in the Champions League, but on Thursday evening at least repairs were carried out in the Conference League. It was enough to lead to Portugal, but not to make it really difficult for them in the current year’s cycle.
Thanks to the victories of PSV (at FC Copenhagen) and Feyenoord (at Partizan Belgrade), the Netherlands added no less than 0.800 points. Although both teams also progress to the quarterfinals of the Conference League, no bonus points have been earned yet. Bonus points are only awarded in the third European tournament after reaching the semi-finals. However, these are our only representatives left in Europe this season.
AZ (against FK Bodo Glimt) and Vitesse (against AS Roma) each added 0.200 points after their draws, bringing a total of 1.2 points this week. This brings the total to 20.5 points this season, which is still the highest number in all of Europe. Feyenoord reached the top ten clubs in Europe this season on 20.5 club points. Because three clubs were eliminated this week, the counter will be more difficult for the Netherlands for the time being.
Competitor Portugal, for example, also has two clubs over and took a total of 1.00 point this week due to the results of Benfica (win), Sporting Braga (draw) and FC Porto (draw, but eliminated). As a result, it is normally impossible that we take over sixth place from Portugal in the current position for the next season, but for the coming season, the Netherlands is virtually still in that place that entitles you to two direct (!) Champions League tickets.
Current state:
5. France: 58,914 points (3/6)
6. Portugal: 52.882 points (2/6)
7. Netherlands: 47,500 points (2/5)
8. Austria: 38,850 (0/5)
Standings for the 2023/24 season:
5. France: 47,414 points (3/6)
6. Netherlands: 44,600 points (2/6)
7. Portugal: 43,216 points (2/6)
