Jakarta –
Unattractive performance from Marcus Rashford at club level this season has finally impacted England National Team. His name was dropped ahead of international trials later this month.
It was discovered after the England manager Gareth Southgate have just announced the names called up for the games against Switzerland (27 March) and Ivory Coast (30 March). Both matches will be played at Wembley.
Rashford, who has only scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists in 26 games this season, is considered by Southgate to be not in top form. There are more worthy to defend the Three Lions at this time.
Even so, Southgate doesn’t close the door on attackers Manchester United it’s in the future. For him, Rashford could return at any time if his performance on the gridiron had improved.
“These are difficult times for him (Rashford). He is clearly not in the best condition. There is still a lot of time, we know a lot about Marcus and hopefully he can find his best form again,” said Southgate, quoted by Sky Sports.
The same fate befell other MU players, Jadon Sancho. The 21-year-old winger’s record this season is no better than Rashford. He has scored 5 goals and 3 assists in 33 games.
Looking at the list of attackers called by Southgate, most of them are performing well with their respective clubs, from Harry Kane, Tammy Abraham, Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, to Raheem Sterling. So, Rashford and Sancho’s omission is more or less understandable.
Here is the list of England players for the two trials this month:
