Few Americans believe there has been significant progress in the past 50 years in equal treatment of blacks in the police and justice system, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Produced by The Associated Press and the NORC research center, it finds that black people, many of whom have remained hopeful in the Democratic Party’s 2020 promises for racial justice, are particularly pessimistic about future progress on this front.

An overwhelming majority of respondents, regardless of their racial or ethnic origin, say more progress is needed, with half even believing that it will take “a lot”, according to this poll carried out from February 18 to 21 among from a national sample of 1,289 adults.
