Dijon, capital of European tourism. The tourism ministers of the 27 countries of the European Union meet for 48 hours in the city of the Dukes of Burgundy. Under the chairmanship of Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister Delegate in charge of Tourism, French people living abroad, Francophonie and SMEs, they must work to strengthen European tourism in Europe, and move towards “sustainable tourism.”
What does that mean ? Can we find in Burgundy and Côte-d’Or a tourist attendance comparable to that before the Covid crisis? Are we going to find our American or Asian tourists one day? Should we do without it now? Can soaring prices and the war in Europe dissuade holidaymakers from coming to Burgundy? These are the questions that France Bleu Bourgogne will submit to Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, guest of our morning this Friday, March 18 from 7:45 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
“A 2022 turnover which will remain lower than that of 2019” -David Guidard, Tour Operator in Côte-d’Or
We can now drop the mask and forget the vaccination pass, but the tourism sector has not yet regained all its colors. “We were 15 employees in 2019, we are no longer 7 today” explains Nicolas Guidard, director of “Authentica Tour”a tour operator offering visits to the vineyards and estates of the Côte-d’Or. “Since last summer, we have found some of our American tourists, but we are still far from the mark. Those who come back are a bit of “adventurers” who want to see the country and visit several European countries. The clientele Asia is still absent, with a few exceptions. The war in Europe will not make things any easier, because the plane journeys are lengthened to avoid the conflict zone. This complicates their movements for the moment. It is estimated that this year, we will remain on a turnover down 40% compared to 2019.”
