Federation of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) stated the statement of Saifuddin Ibrahim who asked for 300 verses Al-Qur’an being removed is a personal attitude and is not related to the organization or the church.
“That’s a personal statement, yes. It has nothing to do with PGI and churches in general. It just so happens that Saifudin Ibrahim is called or calls himself a priest,” said PGI Public Relations Head Jeirry Sumampow to CNNIndonesia.comThursday (17/3).
Jeirry asked the public not to respond further to Saifuddin’s statement. According to him, Saifuddin was just looking for a sensation by making something controversial and provocative.
“So if the response is longer, he will be happier,” he said.
Jeirry also appealed to the public, especially Muslims, not to be provoked by Saifuddin. He hoped that all parties would stop discussing and discussing the Saifuddin issue.
“So PGI hopes to stop discussing and talking about it,” he said.
For information, in a viral video, Saifuddin admitted to conveying a number of things related to the situation of religious life in Indonesia to Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.
Saifuddin also touched on the issue of the pesantren curriculum and linked it to radicalism, as well as the suggestion to delete 300 verses of the Qur’an.
The Head of the Public Relations, Data and Information Bureau of the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) Thobib Al Asyhar emphasized that the Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas did not know the figure of Saifuddin. Thobib also said that Saifuddin’s statement regarding pesantren and verses of the Qur’an was wrong.
