Around 400 thousand Moderna vaccines are about to expire in Santa Cruz

There are batches of vaccines against Covid-19 about to expire in Santa Cruz. The announcement was made on Tuesday, by Erwin Viruez, director of Sedes. When consulted in this regard, Carlos Hurtado, manager of Epidemiology, indicated that it is a batch of Moderna vaccines, of approximately 400 thousand doses.

According to a publication by the Pan American Health Organization last February, in which it reports the donation of Moderna vaccines to Bolivia, according to the distribution made by the country’s Expanded Program on Immunization, Santa Cruz received 553,000 doses of that line of vaccines.

Although he did not specify the date on which they will expire, Hurtado stated that they are available at all vaccination points in the city and provinces and that this line can be applied both as a first dose, as a second and third.

According to Hurtado, the department received a stock of vaccines with a short expiration date. It is possible that there is another batch of vaccines, in addition to those, that is also close to expiration. Through the Communication area of ​​the Headquarters, they indicated that waiting for reports and that they will announce this situation at a press conference.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, until Tuesday, March 15, 12,882,007 doses of a total of 23,815,500 vaccines “managed and acquired by the national government” have been applied. That is to say, only the 54% of the vaccines that exist in the country have been administered. This State portfolio was consulted -through its Communication unit- about this reality, but no response was obtained.
