Microsoft Introduces $800 Webcam for Surface Hub Office Display – Computer – News

Microsoft introduces a 4k webcam for Surface Hub office screens. According to the manufacturer, the camera has a computing power of 1 teraflops and AI is used to properly display participants in a meeting.

From Surface Hub 2 Smart Camera has a 12-megapixel sensor and an angle of view of more than 136 degrees. Software adjusts the angle depending on who is in the frame. The angle of view can be adjusted up to 48 degrees. Framing the image and applying correction for perspective and lens distortion is done automatically with artificial intelligence, Microsoft says.

The manufacturer does not provide technical details. It is also not clear what hardware is in the camera. Microsoft only mentions the performance of 1 teraflops. That comes close to the processing power of the GPU in the Xbox One console, which scores 1.3 teraflops. However, it is likely that it is a chip that is focused on performing tasks for artificial intelligence.

The webcam can be purchased separately for $800 as an upgrade for Surface Hub 2 displays. The camera will be included as standard with the 85-inch version of the Surface Hub 2S, which costs $22,000 starting May 31.

Microsoft’s Surface Hub is a large screen for offices, intended for video conferencing and other ways of working together. The Surface Hub devices are for sale in the Netherlands and Belgium through business resellers.
