Ex-President Park is expected to be discharged from hospital this month

SEOUL, March 16 (Yonhap) — Former President Park Geun-hye is expected to leave hospital before the end of this month, her advisers said Wednesday, as she prepares to move to a new residence. located in his hometown of Daegu.

Park is currently hospitalized at Samsung Medical Center (SMC) in Gangnam, southern Seoul, for treatment as she was granted a presidential pardon in December.

The exact date of her discharge from hospital has not yet been decided, but she could leave hospital next week at the earliest, according to her advisers.

Park, 70, completed her change of address on March 2 and the removal operation has begun, suggesting her discharge from hospital is imminent.

The political community is watching Park’s movements closely as she previously said she could deliver a public message upon her release from hospital.

In particular, it remains to be seen whether Park will mention President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol in his eventual message. Yoon, a former prosecutor, led the investigation into the corruption scandal involving Park, which led to his removal and imprisonment in 2017.

During his election campaign, Yoon indicated that he was sorry for the investigation, perhaps to win votes from conservative voters in the presidential election.

Park had served four years and nine months in prison before the presidential pardon.

Separately, Park supporters plan to hold a welcome ceremony outside his new residence on Friday.
