Lauffen: High property damage after train accident
High property damage and probably hours of disruption to rail traffic between Heilbronn and Lauffen are the consequences of an accident on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after 1 p.m., on the Frankenbahn near Lauffen. For reasons that were previously unclear, the 60-year-old driver of an articulated lorry drove onto a level crossing between Nordheim and Lauffen, although a train was approaching from the north. The regional train with around 70 people on the way from Würzburg to Tübingen collided with the trailer loaded with construction equipment and materials. Neither the truck driver nor the train driver were injured. The passengers were also unharmed. However, damage to property amounted to several hundred thousand euros. Rail traffic is closed for several hours, and a rail replacement service has been set up. Officials from the Heilbronn police headquarters are now trying to determine how the accident could have happened. In addition to the state police, the federal police and an emergency manager from the railways were also on site.
