Roger Federer, 40, talks about entering a new phase in his life

Former world No. 1 Roger Federer turned 40 last August and he was grateful to be able to turn 40 surrounded by his friends, family and team. Besides being a tennis pro and one of the greatest players in tennis history, Federer is also a family man.

Federer has four children with his wife Mirka. “This summer I was able to celebrate my 40th birthday, marking the middle of my life with family, friends and my team who have supported me throughout my tennis and personal life.

Every day I am thankful for the people who have helped me get to where I am today and who have guided me through many difficult decisions and given me insights. Because I have so many great people by my side, I look forward to this next phase of my life with great optimism.

I have no doubt that with you all by my side it will be filled with new exciting and joyful things, Federer wrote in his annual report.

Federer is optimistic that the new phase of his life will be a joyful one

Federer has spent a lot of time at home in the last two years.

Federer underwent knee surgery after the 2020 Australian Open. Unhappy with how the first operation went, Federer underwent a second knee operation a few months later. After a long rehab, Federer made his comeback in Doha in March 2021.

Federer appeared in just five tournaments before announcing a third knee surgery. Federer last played at Wimbledon where he reached the quarterfinals before losing to Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets.

Federer is 40 years old and has had three knee surgeries in the last two years, but he’s not ready to step away from tennis. Federer is hoping for a comeback in the second part of the 2022 season. It remains to be seen when Federer will return to the pitch.
