Dresden wants to become an e-mobility model city | Elektroauto-News.net

According to its own statement, the city of Dresden is well on the way to becoming a model city in the field of e-mobility – also thanks to good cross-industry cooperation. Industrial companies work in the e-mobility network as well as research institutions, municipal institutions and the tourism experts of Dresden Elbland. Another joint project was inaugurated a few days ago: the first wall box from Volkswagen subsidiary Elli for a Dresden hotel.

An important partner in the e-mobility network is Volkswagen’s Transparent Factory. “2021 marked the breakthrough of e-mobility in Germany: 26 percent of new registrations in 2021 were pure e-cars or plug-in hybrids. This has consequences for the infrastructure of the cities – and also for hotels. The cooperation with the Bilderberg Bellevue Hotel is a flagship partnership: on the one hand in the form of additional charging infrastructure, on the other hand innovative partner communication for electromobility. We are breaking new ground here“, emphasizes the site manager of the VW Transparent Factory, Danny Auerswald.

The Bilderberg Bellevue has designed two parking boxes in its underground car park with large-format pictures and refers to the cooperation between the tourism partners Gläserne Manufaktur and Bilderberg Bellevue on the walls. At the same time, the Volkswagen subsidiary Elli delivered two wall boxes.

For hotel director Sebastian Klink, Bilderberg Bellevue Dresden, electromobility is part of the big picture: “We at Bellevue have already addressed many topics that will shape the future of tourism and society. Sustainability and e-mobility have long been among the global megatrends. This can also be seen in the guests’ needs pyramid. In our experience, the presence of an e-charging station is becoming more and more important. For this reason, we already have e-charging stations. With the new Elli wall box from Volkswagen and the construction of our second underground car park with additional charging options, we are making great progress with our range. The hotel industry will have to address the issue, that’s for sure. All the better that the commitment within our city sets the course for this.“

New study “Tourist Electromobility in Dresden Elbland”

Dresden Marketing GmbH (DMG), Dresden’s official umbrella marketing organisation, sees itself as a source of inspiration, consultants and intermediaries in order to convey the importance and opportunities of electromobility specifically to Dresden’s hotels. A recent study by DMG and Volkswagen’s Transparent Factory, “Tourist Electromobility in Dresden Elbland”, shows that Dresden’s hotels have recognized the need to invest in charging infrastructure. 32 percent of the accommodation providers are interested in charging infrastructure for e-vehicles in the short term, 44 percent in the medium to long term.

From our study we know that 17 percent of the hotels in Dresden Elbland already have a charging station for e-vehicles and almost half of all hotels in Dresden do. That’s a good start, but it’s not enough. Because the guest still rewards the hotel charging station, tomorrow he will already expect it. With offers such as information events for the industry, we work together to gradually break down obstacles, such as the reluctance to make financial investments“, explains Corinne Miseer, Managing Director of DMG. The aim is for the majority of hotels and tourist attractions to be equipped with a charging infrastructure within the next two to three years. “If Dresden sets the tone in electromobility, then that is also a competitive advantage in tourism‘ Miseer continued.

400 public charging points in Dresden by the end of 2022

Charging infrastructure is a prerequisite for ramping up electromobility. The state capital Dresden and SachsenEnergie are therefore pushing ahead with the expansion of the charging infrastructure in Dresden. “Dresden is currently the city with the densest network of public charging stations in Germany. Dresden has thus developed into a pioneer of electromobility in recent years. Together with SachsenEnergie, we have invested around 7 million euros in expanding the public charging infrastructure at the MOBI points alone. There are also private investments in public charging points. With success: we will reach our milestone of 400 charging points in Dresden three years earlier than planned, at the end of 2022 instead of 2025 as originally planned” says Dr. Robert Franke, Head of the Office for Economic Development of the City of Dresden.

The gradual expansion of the use of electromobility is also reflected in the increasing number of charging processes at the respective charging stations. “We deliberately rely on a high proportion of fast chargers. Here, too, we are playing a pioneering role with 30 percent of the entire public charging infrastructure in Dresden. The free parking in the city of Dresden creates an additional incentive for the use of electromobility in our city“, adds Dr. Franke.
