Katrīna (Iveta Pole) is a journalist who investigates a mysterious organization led by the popular Master (Vilis Dodiņš). When Katrīna finds out about the schemes behind the Master’s organization, the House of Water, she decides to investigate and inform the public about what is really going on behind the million-euro Master’s project, where people purify themselves with the power of a specially structured water. However, Katrīna learns that her daughter (Alise Dzene) is also actively involved in the organization and is convinced of the power of water.

The ensemble of actors of the film “Taste of Water” consists of well-known and experienced actors who have worked with the young director more than once. In the main roles: Vilis Diņš, Iveta Pole, Andris Keišs, Jānis Skutelis, Gerds Lapoška, ​​Alise Dzene, who are also co-authors of the script. “The Taste of Water scenario was a collaboration with all the actors involved. Absolutely everyone had the opportunity to create lyrics and episodes. I offered the characters and the initial setting of the plot, but we all created the rest together,” says Matīss Kaža.

“The idea for the plot of the film came at the beginning of last year, when the Latvian information space became more and more aggressive and fragmented. The Covid-19 pandemic and related events only further escalated the problems that had been in society for years. “It means to obey a specific information bubble, what psychological mechanisms are used to create followers. Also about the limits of free will in today ‘s world,” adds Matīss Kaža. Like Kaža’s comedy “Cinema and We”, “Taste of Water” combines elements of theater and cinema, moving the action in a conditional environment and shooting the whole film in one continuous shot without editing space.

The cinematographer of the film is Aleksandrs Grebņevs, composer Kaspars Kurdeko, artist Kaspars Kauliņš, costume designer Ieva Kauliņa, sound director Aleksandrs Vaicahovskis, make-up artist Aija Beata Rjabovska, producers Matīss Kaža and Dace Siatkovska.

Matiss Kaža is a 26-year-old film director, screenwriter and producer for the western Wild East. He studied cinema at the Tisha Art School of the University of New York, and supplemented his knowledge at the Conservatory of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, as well as at the Latvian Academy of Culture. In 2022, two films by Kaža will be premiered – the satire “Taste of Water”, as well as the drama for young people “Neon Spring”. Currently, Matīss Kaža is also actively working as a producer on Linda Olte’s family drama “Sisters” and Gints Zilbaložis’ second full-length animated film “Straume”.

The film “Taste of Water” has received support from the State Cultural Capital Fund’s “Cultural Space” program. The film was produced by the studio “Deep Sea Studios” in cooperation with the Latvian Academy of Culture and Gertrudes Street Theater.
