Humanitarian situation worsens in Ukraine, Russia asks the UN Security Council to hold a vote

Diplomatic envoy Russia calling on the Security Council (DK) United Nations (UN) votes for its self-drafted resolution on ‘deteriorating humanitarian situation’ in Ukraineafter Russian military forces launched deadly attacks.

As reported AFPWednesday (16/3/2022), Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia admitted that he regretted the attitude of France and Mexico for not submitting a draft resolution on humanitarian aid to the forum. DK PBB.

Nebenzia said Russia would submit a resolution it drafted for the UN Security Council to vote on.

“We will submit our own draft that addresses humanity,” said Nebenzia.

Russia’s Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy initially told AFP that Russia asked for a vote on Wednesday (16/3) local time, but a Western diplomat later said the vote was postponed to next Thursday (17/3) after Russia asked for more time for negotiations’.

In his statement, Nebenzia stressed that since French President Emmanuel Macron unveiled the prospect of a UNSC resolution, Russia has said it is ready to adopt it, provided it does not contain ‘political’ language.

France and Mexico, under significant pressure from Britain and the United States, plan to call for a “cessation of hostilities” in their resolution – but the words are likely to trigger a Russian veto.
