Chelsea is affected by financial sanctions imposed by the British government on Roman Abramovich. Abramovich is known to be a close person to the President of Russia Vladimir Putinwho ordered the invasion of Ukraine.
The freezing of Abramovich’s assets has now disrupted Chelsea’s operations. They can’t spend and extend player contracts.
The sale of tickets and club merchandise is temporarily banned, with only season ticket holders able to watch live at the stadium. Even costs for matches have been cut, with transport costs for away games limited to just £20,000.
That makes Chelsea have to rack their brains for the Champions League last 16 second leg away to Lille, Thursday (17/3/2022) early morning WIB. They can no longer rent planes as usual due to limited budgets, with the option of using the train or bus.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel says he is ready if he has to drive himself and bring his players to France. Temporary Kai Havertz even ready to use personal money to go to the match.
“I will pay for it, it’s not a problem. It’s not a big problem. For us the most important thing is to come to the game,” he said BBC.
“There are more difficult things in the world right now than getting on the bus or plane to an away game,” said Havertz.
