Less than a month before the first round, the representatives of the French airlines also addressed their grievances to the candidates for the presidential election. A ritual exercise already conducted during the two previous elections by the National Federation of Merchant Aviation (FNAM), without much result so far, but which takes a particular turn at the end of the most serious crisis in the history of transport air.
Complaints that begin with an observation: with passenger traffic still 50% lower than in 2019 for 2021 and airlines still heavily in deficit, French air transport is indeed “far from being out of business”, underlines the president of the FNAM, Alain Battisti. If the French airlines say they are confident for the summer season, the first effects of the war in Ukraine and the surge in kerosene prices nevertheless leave a risk of a relapse. “Our concern is not to break the recovery by raising prices too high,” explains Pascal de Izaguirre, vice-president of FNAM and boss of Corsair.
