War in Ukraine: the City of Brussels intends to assume its share of work and solidarity in welcoming refugees

The City of Brussels intends to assume its part of the work within the framework within the initiative “hospital commune” with regard to refugees from Ukraine and ensure coordination of solidarity actions in the municipality and events in support of the Ukrainian population.

This is one of the commitments made Monday evening unanimously, by the municipal council, in a motion adopted after long discussions about, in particular, amendments co-written in session. The PTB abstained due to disagreement on three amendments, but not on the condemnation of “military attacks by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, its sovereignty, territorial integrity and people; recognition by Russia of the “People’s Republics” of Luhansk and Donetsk, as well as the continued military occupation of Crimea“.

The City of Brussels also wants “pay particular attention to the most vulnerable and specifically to childcare by guaranteeing them – among other things – access to our crèches and education in our schools” and inform the population of the various solidarity initiatives in the municipality and events in support of the Ukrainian population.
