Paid in advance 2.5 million euros more of the municipal debt

One year after the Town Hall was put into use, with this latest debt amortization, the islanders have already paid in full for the rehabilitation work of this magnificent enclave

The Government of San Fernando, with data in hand, has spoken about its economic management in relation to the municipal debt, and this same month of March it has taken a fundamental step in this regard with the amortization of more than 2.5 million euros of loans, which makes it possible to reduce the level of indebtedness and face new projects with greater solvency and to be able to dedicate efforts to the improvement of public services.

The mayor, Patricia Cavada, has detailed that having paid these 2.5 million euros in advance leaves the municipal debt of San Fernando below 18 million euros, when in 2015 it was more than 44 million. That represents a decrease of 60%.

As the councilor has highlighted, “events like this show that the municipal government is advancing in its objective of ensuring that loans are used to execute living projects, not to indebt citizens in the long term.”

Cavada has delved into this aspect and has highlighted that “this is possible thanks to the success demonstrated by this Executive when it comes to attracting funds from other administrations to finance the projects that are launched in the city. From this City Council we launch many actions, a municipal commitment that we carry out with our own funds and subject to loans, but thanks to the capture of extra financing through subsidies and calls of all kinds we are able to reduce the debt contracted and be able to move forward in new projects, as well as improving the quality of the services and benefits that we offer to the island’s citizens”.

As an example, the councilor has detailed that precisely the aforementioned amortization of these 2.5 million euros corresponds almost entirely to two loans requested in 2014 and 2016 to be able to finance the rehabilitation of the Town Halls that have already been paid off . “Now, just one year after the reopening of the Town Hall, we can already say that the islanders have finished paying for this major work, and that we can once again enjoy our wonderfully renovated Town Hall, without this having meant an economic burden for the city”, added Cavada.
